BN ROI Report
The New Mexico Basic Needs project collected data from nearly 14,000 students, faculty, and staff across 27 colleges and universities in New Mexico during 2023. The report found that 66% of NM undergraduates had some form of basic need insecurity. 52% experienced food insecurity in the prior 30 days of the survey, and 58% were housing insecure within the prior twelve months .1 Students facing basic needs insecurity (BNI) showed lower GPAs and engaged in more risk-related behaviors, thereby increasing their likelihood of not completing their degrees. This report reveals the potentials return on investment if New Mexico college students were basic needs secure.
